Who carries out the physical therapy sessions

Physical therapy, short called as physiotherapy, is a therapy in the health care and the treatment modality that helps the sick, injured, or people with disabilities recover and restore movement and function in its highest form of potentiality. These objectives can be achieved through education of customers in different modalities such as exercises of motion, physical orientation and manual therapy. Who carries out the physical therapy sessions?

The only trained and licensed to carry out physiotherapy sessions professionally are physiotherapists. They are capable of working in different areas of specialization of the PT as:

Intensive care units
Long term disability
General health (including incontinence)
Rehabilitation after major surgery
Orthopedics and Traumatology unit
rehabilitation sport
Pediatric and geriatric care
Health education and promotion

Physiotherapists are now considered a part of the multidisciplinary team of health of a client. They can also play their trade in community-based organizations, public and private hospitals, clinics, industrial workplaces, sports clinics and even charities.

What health problems can be treated with physical therapy?

Physical therapist can perform different physical forms and treatments in order to intervene with disorders related to the various systems of organs in the body, including:

Neuromuscular system - Stroke, multiple sclerosis, Gullaine - Barre
Musculoskeletal System - sprains, strains, ACL injuries
Cardiovascular system - heart, angina pectoris attacks
Respiratory system - atelectasis, among other lung, trachea or larynx disorders and injuries

What activities can be performed by physiotherapists?

The following are some of the activities and details of which are included in physiotherapy:

Physics and range of motion exercises, while taking into account the level of the current health of the client
The manual therapy, in helping the recovery of customer by the use of the hands of the PT in relief of muscle stiffness and pain, encouraging at the same time the flow of blood to the affected part of the body

  2. My mom is thinking about getting physical therapy for her shoulder. For the last few months, her shoulder has caused her a lot of pain, and I think that the exercises physical therapist do could be the perfect solution to her problem. With what you've said, it sounds like I need to find someone that's licensed for the Respiratory system, because they're the ones that deal with injuries. Hopefully, when I talk to my mom about this, she'll like the idea and do it.
